Postdoc Opportunity at the UC Davis School of Medicine
The Department of Radiology at UC Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento invites applications for a postdoctoral research position focused on PET instrumentation and image processing. The successful applicant will work on projects with Dr Abhijit Chaudhari and his collaborators Drs Ramsey Badawi, John Boone, Simon Cherry and Jinyi Qi from UC Davis, and Dr Anand Joshi from USC. The research group has strong links with the Department of Medicine, Surgery, Pathology and Biomedical Engineering at UC Davis.
One research focus of this position will be the development of a PET camera for high-resolution imaging of extremities. The other will be the development of advanced image registration methods for monitoring of response to treatment in oncology. The works will be multi-disciplinary, involving a mixture of software and hardware development. Experience in either PET instrumentation or image processing will be essential. In addition to specific research projects, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to journal clubs and actively participate in team-based critical assessment of all on-going projects at weekly lab meetings. These projects include microPET/MR, solid state and DOI detectors for PET, optical tomography, image reconstruction, dynamic image quantification, image segmentation, breast PET/CT, large field-of-view PET scanners and tumor metrics for cancer therapeutics.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in biomedical imaging or another numerate discipline. Good laboratory and software skills are a must. The successful candidate will be liaising with biomedical engineers, oncologists, rheumatologists, radiologists and imaging technologists as well as physicists, so good communication skills are very important. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension depending on funding and performance.
